Trailer chassis rebuild

A rusted trailer chassis cut back and rewelded ready for another season.

This was a livestock trailer with a chassis that had gone porous along the main rails, and the owner wanted it saved rather than scrapped. We stripped the deck, cut out the worst sections and welded in new box steel, stitching the cross members back as we went. The axles stayed on throughout, which kept the cost down, and we kept the trailer on its wheels so it could be rolled out each evening. It was handed back with the new steel primed and the deck refitted, ready for its next test.

A small workshop that likes the awkward jobs

Powell Welding is a family-run metal fabrication and repair workshop, working under the name POWELL WELDING LTD. We take on the jobs that are too small for a big fabricator and too fiddly for a general builder, from a cracked gate hinge to a one-off bracket that does not exist anywhere off the shelf.

Our work is mostly mild steel, stainless and aluminium, welded with MIG, TIG or stick depending on what the metal and the job call for. That covers farm and equestrian repairs, trailer and chassis work, railings, gates, frames and general on-site welding where something cannot be brought to us.

We are set up for one-off pieces and repairs rather than long production runs, and we are happy to work from a sketch, a broken original, or just a description over the phone. If you are not sure whether a repair is worth doing, ask us and we will tell you straight, even when the answer is that it is not.

Where a job can be done in the workshop, that is usually the neatest and cheapest way to do it. Where it cannot be moved, we come to you with the welder, the gas and the leads, and work around whatever else is going on at your place.

Most of our customers come back, and most of them came to us the first time because someone else sent them. That suits us fine. We would rather do a small job well and see you again than chase work we cannot give proper attention to.
